Just ran across a quote from a year-old issue of "Physics Today" that I really like:

"'Dark energy' feeds into the media misconception that science is somehow mysterious and difficult to grasp. The reality is that science is very clear but based upon a demanding process." --Daniel Helman, California State University, Long Beach

He was hating on the coined term 'dark energy,' but I think the sentiment has a deeper value and can be used to encourage students of the physical sciences.
